Current ePetitions


One of the easiest and most popular ways of engaging in the democratic process is to sign a petition. A paper petition or an e-Petition is a quick and easy way to bring issues to the attention of our councillors and influence local decision making.

To present a paper petition to the Council, please contact the Council's Committee Services team on 01303 853265 or email, at least 15 working days before the relevant Council meeting, to discuss the process. Paper petitions should be sent to the Chief Executive, Folkestone and Hythe District Council, Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2QY at least 10 clear working days before the full Council meeting at which you would like the petition to be presented.

The council welcomes e-petitions which are created and submitted through its website at the link shown at the bottom of this page. E-petitions must follow the same guidelines as paper petitions, and if you create an e-Petition, you will be required to provide the Council with basic personal information so that we can contact you about your e-Petition. The information will only be used for this purpose, although we may need to pass your details to the relevant department to enable them to respond to you about the issues you have raised.

E-Petitions submitted via external websites will not be accepted.

If a petition contains fewer than 250 signatures (and does not concern a matter referred to in the paragraph above) the decision on how to respond to the petition shall be made by the relevant head of service, in consultation with the relevant portfolio holder.

If you sign an e-Petition on our website, you will be required to provide us with basic personal information to enable us to verify the signatures collected are genuine. Your name (but no other details) will be published on the e-Petition website. We will only use the information you provide for this purpose. To sign an e-Petition please click on its title in the list below.

When an e-petition has closed for signature, it will automatically be submitted to the Chief Executive. In the same way as a paper petition, an acknowledgement will be sent, within 10 working days. If the petition organiser would like to present the e-petition to a meeting of the Council, they can contact the Committee Services team, within 10 working days of receipt of the acknowledgement.

A petition requesting a referendum to change the council's governance arrangements ran for the period 24 March to 30 June 2021. A statutory notice has been published advising that the E-Petition was invalid.

Supporting an e-Petition

To support an existing e-Petition choose an e-Petition and add your name, address and email address. You will be asked to create and verify, by email, a password. Please note this registration is independent to the ‘My Account’ service login.

Submitting an e-Petition

An e-Petition can relate to any issue on which the Council has powers or duties or on which it has shared delivery responsibilities through the Local Area Agreement or other partnership arrangement.
