Our project would particularly benefit those with low confidence (a common problem post-pandemic) and reading ages of one year or more below the expected age. Academy FM has worked with these pupils in recent projects, and in 2022 we installed recording equipment in the school which will be used for this project.

01/03/2023 - Hythe Environmental Community Group ref: 2777    Recommendations Approved

E-Waste Drop Off in Hythe High Street -

Having created a successful Electronic Waste Recycling Drop Off point

in Hythe High Street for small electronic devices (kettles, toys, toaster,

hair dryers etc), this has been so successful that we need a 2nd Wheelie

bin to store items in prior to their pick up by the recycling centre.

Decision Maker: Ward Member for Hythe Rural (2)

Decision published: 01/03/2023

Effective from: 01/03/2023

Decision:

To provide funding of £225 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

Currently, people wishing to recycle electronic waste have to take it to Ross Way Recycling

Centre which requires a car. Many people find this inconvenient if not impossible and hence, they just throw kettles, toasters, etc in their domestic waste. This goes to Allington where it is

incinerated, wasting earth’s resources and necessitating the manufacture of new devices using virgin materials often mined in countries with dubious ethical and human rights records. This venture encourages people to bring their E-Waste into Hythe when they do their shopping and leave it at our drop off point for recycling.

Experience with running the facility has shown a huge demand for it, has increased footfall into the High Street and put The Open Door Project on the map making it a much-appreciated Community Drop in as well as E-Waste Drop Off.
