North Downs West – Stowting Primary Oracy

Academy FM will work with children struggling with reading & oracy in an extra-curricular project in a Primary school, using audio recording techniques to make improvements that would not be possible in a classroom setting.

DECISION:

To provide funding of £410 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

The APPG found that children experiencing disadvantage and poverty need help with oracy the most – while Stowting Primary is a high-performing school there are pupils who struggle with confidence and oracy, and some come from backgrounds of rural deprivation. Our project would particularly benefit those with low confidence (a common problem post-pandemic) and reading ages of one year or more below the expected age. Academy FM has worked with these pupils in recent projects, and in 2022 we installed recording equipment in the school which will be used for this project.
